Why Buy From the Maker:
Kaarigar vs. the Reseller Market
The Problem
With the Reseller Market
Most copper bottles online are sold by people who have never seen a hammer touch copper. They list a product, place a dropship order with a factory they've never visited, and ship whatever shows up. You have no way to know what alloy you're actually getting, whether it's been tested, or who made it.
Kaarigar is different.
We are not the middlemen but the manufacturers. Since 2013, every copper piece we sell has been made at our own facility in India - not sourced, not relabeled, not resold.
The Honest
Comparison
| Features | Kaarigar | Typical Reseller |
|---|---|---|
| Who makes it | Made in-house at our own facility in India | Sourced from an unnamed factory, often unseen by the seller |
| Copper purity | 99.9% purity certified, lab/FDA-tested (test results published) | Rarely disclosed or verifiable |
| Construction | Single sheet of copper, hand-hammered ~1,200 times - no welded seams | Often multiple welded pieces; gauge and method undisclosed |
| Material thickness | Premium 21-gauge (most market bottles use thinner 23-gauge) | Usually unspecified, frequently thinner for lower cost |
| Quality control | We inspect what we make, because we made it | Limited to no visibility into the factory's QC |
| Customization | Custom orders possible (e.g., made-to-measure copper kitchen sinks) | Fixed catalog; no ability to adjust specs |
| If something's wrong | You're talking to the people who built it | You're routed through a reseller who has to ask their supplier |
| Where your money goes | Direct to artisans, paid fair value, in a long-term cooperative model | Spread across reseller markup and an anonymous supply chain |
Why This Matters
Cheaper copper products often use substandard or unverified copper. This difference isn't something you can tell by looking at a product photo. When a bottle touches your drinking water every day, who made it - and how - isn't a small detail.
Built on a simple idea
Kaarigar means "artisan" in Hindi. The company was founded by Amelia and Alnasir Khan after Alnasir witnessed skilled Indian craftsmen being squeezed for pennies by retailers who profited from their work. Kaarigar was built to do the opposite: pay artisans fair value for genuinely skilled, labor-intensive work, and put their craftsmanship directly in front of customers worldwide - without a layer of resellers in between.
That's been the model for over a decade: 15+ years of craftsmanship, a manufacturing facility in India where artisans are paid fairly in a cooperative model, and more than 50,000 customers worldwide who've bought a product with a name and a face behind it, not just a listing.
What You Can Verify Yourself
Independent lab results for our copper purity are published and linked from our product pages.
Customer reviews (320+ on our flagship bottle alone) describe direct contact with our team — including, in several cases, speaking with Alnasir personally to resolve an order issue.
We take custom and wholesale orders directly, something only possible because we control our own production.
A reseller can copy our product photos. But they can't copy the factory, the artisans, or the decade of relationships that stand behind what we make. When you buy from Kaarigar, you're buying from the people who actually made it - and you can ask us anything about how.
